Gerald Schönfeldinger lives in Southern Burgenland and works as a freelance musician, composer, and instrument maker.
After completing music and violin studies in Vienna, he had engagements with various Viennese orchestras, including the RSO Vienna, Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, and Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra, performing concerts in Europe, Japan, Korea, China, North and South America.
Following intensive self-study of the verrophone, he founded the
Vienna Glass Harmonica Duo, performing numerous concerts on stages worldwide.
In addition to composing for the glass sound, he is dedicated to building the glass harmonica to preserve and pass on this special instrument for musicians, sound therapists, and future generations.
At the Joseph Haydn Private University of Burgenland, Gerald Schönfeldinger dedicates himself to researching the glass harmonica – its history, repertoire, and further development.
